For proof that Hyundai is excelling like no other automaker today, look no further than the Korean automaker's November sales report. The makers of the award-winning Sonata sedan and Tucson Crossover sold a record 49,610 vehicles, which marks a 22-percent total sales increase and 24-percent retail sales increase for the month when compared to the previous year.
So far this year, Hyundai has sold 594,926 vehicles, which is over 100,000 more car sales than the previous year. What's the cause for this surge in sales? The answer is simple: Fuel economy. Nearly 36 percent of new Hyundai models sold in November sported an EPA-estimated 40 MPG or higher, and if that isn't a strong indicator of interest, we don't know what is.
Hyundai is taking this public interest to hear too. The corporate average fuel economy of the Hyundai lineup is 36.1 MPG (27.2 MPG label value) for the year, and models like the all-new Hyundai Veloster are only serving to increase that number as sales continue to rise.
At this point, the only thing holding sales back any further is more supply to meet the incredible public demand. However, as John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO explains, "While our 35 days-supply level today is low by most standards, it's the best we've seen at the start of a month for some time."1
